The Snowy Range Lodge (SRL) sits on 2.01 acres on secluded Barber Lake Road in the Medicine Bow Forest at an altitude of 8500 ft., 34 miles from Laramie, Wyoming, and 2.5 miles from Centennial, Wyoming. Centennial is a popular site for music, cafés, a museum, a country store with crafts and handmade ice cream, a post office, and a library. The Lodge is approximately five miles to the Snowy Range Ski Area (990 ft vertical drop with 33 trails) and Medicine Bow Peak, 12,018 ft. Hiking and back country ski trails are everywhere in the area. Skiing and snow boarding can even be done on the Peak in the summer! Whitewater rafting is possible nearby. Trout streams and lakes are abundant, and you might even see a bear!

The Lodge was completely remodeled in the eighties and contains three stories and 7442 sq ft. The back door of the Lodge opens onto Rosemary Lake and a pine and aspen forest. Wild roses, Indian paintbrush (the Wyoming state flower), iris, and fireweed surround the property. Hummingbirds and mountain Blue Jays visit frequently.

On the main floor there are approximately 3000 sq ft, a cathedral ceiling around a three story fireplace, a large kitchen with a wood burning stove and two bathrooms. The first and second floors are connected by an indoor freight elevator, an indoor stairway, and an outdoor stairway. On the second floor, there is a landing leading to a spacious porch overlooking Libby Creek, four bedrooms, a large dining room, and a sitting room. A propane boiler, located in an out building, heats this floor and the first floor kitchen and bathrooms. The space can accommodate 175 guests for a sit down dinner. The third floor contains a bedroom and a huge open space with abundant light from six skylights and is currently the Caretaker’s quarters.

The SRL was designed by famed architect Wilbur Hitchcock in 1919 and constructed by Spiegelberg Building Co. (still in existence) by 1924 on a site that was a tie hack camp called Silver City. Originally the Lodge and its former ten cabins accommodated up to 80 overnight guests. The University of Wyoming Science Camp students often stayed there. A local Centennial historian claims that Teddy Roosevelt even stayed there!

Background

Now this popular site has an active event business that includes weddings, family reunions, and memorial services. Present Lodge owners have sponsored wildflower walks, writing and personal growth workshops, and have hosted teen and adult church groups.
